Bagan Lalang is a great place to relax, unwind, enjoy some fresh sea breezes and at the same time, delicious seafood. Believe it or not, this place is just half and hours drive from the Sepang F1 Circuit. Totally different from KL! If you arrive an hour before sunset, you will be amazed at the unspoiled beaches, fine sands and the beautiful sunset. Definitely worth the drive... Being located close to a fishing village has also given Bagan Lalang a reputation for fresh seafood and there…
So we heard of this newbie at Plaza Damansara which opened just over a month ago. And yes, the market is already bursting with Canton cuisine so what's one more? Fear not, there's more than meets the eye. True, at first glance, their menu isn't that different. But I beg to differ when it comes to its quality and variety. Take for instance the roasted section – charsiew, siew yok and roast duck. It's been done to death and the mere mention would probably have me rolling my eyes –…
Meandering around to the back roads behind Jalan Ampang, I was astonished to find that it’s now a little bit Arab. No less than three Arabic restaurants have sprung up in different degrees of deco and brightness. One, that is quite full of people is flooded with fluorescent light. The other though slightly dimmer, is still a little too bright for me. I confess I do like my Middle-Eastern restaurants smoky, dark and a little mysterious. Andalus has the most ambience of all three. It…
There is this Japanese restaurant that old Captain Cracker usually hang out in which is more refined than his tasty but grotty places. Thus he has no choice but to behave if he wants to eat here, because all the high class sailors park their nice yachts and dine here. The Rakuzen chain especially my favourite one in Plaza Damas serves some of the best Japanese food in KL. The sushi is always fresh all days of the week (they must get their fish from another pirate smuggler) and the meat…
Sunset, seafood and scintillating conversation, an enticement for us to brave a weekday traffic and go to Pulau Langat for dinner. After an age on the highway, bumping through a palm oil estate, avoiding dogs with attitude, a herd of goats and a goose with a naughty behind we arrive in time for sunset on to find… the restaurant is gone! Closed, boarded up, a sign in Chinese indicating probably a new venue but alas! None of us are Cantonese literate. The romantic boat where you can have dinner under…
Las Vacas is one of those places that you never thought we'd have in KL. It's a professional butcher shop that cuts your meats correctly and according to the cuts that you like. The beef is sourced from Australian bred cattles, comes chillied in one big piece to Las Vacas, then professionally cut and apportioned to the kind of premium cuts that I'm sure you are most familiar with. Striploin, Rib-Eye, Sirloin, Tenderloin, Ribs, Cube Roll, Brisket.. they have it all here. Last I checked, they even…
On the third floor of Bangsar Shopping Complex, tucked away between Jungle gym, Kiddie art class and a roller-skating rink, is a pretty little café called ‘Stuff Your Face’. I call it pretty because this is exactly what Stuff Your Face is, white washed walls and wooden counter top with an assortment of cookies and cakes on display, big glass doors leading out to a large patio area with white-washed wooden chairs and tables, adorned with pretty little white daisies. The café is…
For a while now, everytime I come over to my sister's there's always some 'tapau' container in the fridge with Restoran Tasik Indah on it. This restaurant in Shah Alam near the lake has become one of her favourite haunts. Admit it, if you don't actually live in Shah Alam, there's small likelihood of you eating there. But after listening for the 1,000th time how good it is I finally bundled her in my car and drove to the boonies. First thing I noticed is that this place is full. Packed with Malay…
Great food & CyberJaya doesn't rhyme. Not even close. If you've ever been to this part of the world, you know what I mean. But I am about to let out a secret. Judging by the amount of people visiting this Arabic restaurant, I don't think it's much of a secret anymore. Head up to Saba Restaurant and join the thankful CyberJaya citizens relieved that they are able to get some good food at great prices. And the food is pretty darn good. Actually the place looks like a typical mamak shop.…
It's hard to find halal nasi ayam hawkers that has been serving 'kai fan' for a long time, and it is even harder to find one that is Halal. This one is. Laily's customers are old timers and even kids whom has grown up eating her chicken rice. Nasi Ayam Laily is located at the SS15 Subang Jaya Food Court called the Square. A typical chicken rice here will consist of a plate of roasted chicken, a bowl of chicken broth, a plate of rice with cucumber slices and of course, garlic chili paste for that…
